In February, the board of AFG expanded with the addition of three accomplished new members. Together, they bring a diversity of experience, backgrounds, skills, and sensibilities to the board.

JOEL P. TRACHTMAN
Joel P. Trachtman is Professor of International Law at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and directs its LLM Program in International Law. The author of ten books and over a hundred scholarly articles and chapters on international economic law, Joel has served as a member of the Boards of the American Journal of International Law, the European Journal of International Law, and the Journal of International Economic Law.  A frequent commentator on trade law issues, he has consulted for numerous governments and organizations, including the United Nations, the World Bank, and the OECD, and has been a visiting professor at Basel, Hamburg, Harvard, Hebrew, Hong Kong, and Pretoria Universities.

WAYNE LEVENFELD
Wayne Levenfeld and his wife, Tina share a long established tradition of charitable giving and board service.  Currently, Wayne is the Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Los Gatos JCC, and while Tina is a board member of the Silicon Valley Jewish Film Festival, of which the Levenfelds are the lead sponsor.  Their visit to Gatoto in 2019 inspired Wayne to join the AFG board in hopes of helping the school continue its success.

Wayne has been a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area since 1968, where he has been involved in all aspects of the commercial real estate business, including the purchase, sale, and operation of hotels, office buildings, shopping centers, and residential rental properties.

He received an B.S. Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1970.

WILL GANGWARE
Will Gangware is an Associate at McKinsey & Company, which he joined in 2019 after earning a dual MBA and Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University. Before graduate school, Will worked across the public and private sectors, beginning his career at a mergers and acquisitions advisory firm. He later joined the U.S. Department of Defense Task Force for Business and Stability Operations in Afghanistan to facilitate economic development, and worked as a counter-terrorism analyst for the NYPD Intelligence Bureau. Will received a BA in Ethics, Politics, and Economics from Yale University.  In addition to regular board duties, he will also serve as co-Treasurer.

Continued favorable weather has allowed for more rapid progress.

We’re happy to report that over its almost five years of operation, American Friends of Gatoto has raised more than $1,100,000 in support of the school (as of the end of 2019). As described below, American Friends’ funding of Gatoto has increased in dollars and diversity over the years and includes support of the general operating budget, two hot meals daily, post-Gatoto scholarships, and infrastructure improvement projects.
